Came to South Africa from the Netherlands in 1895. In 1897 he was working for the ZAR PWD as an architect and is part of a group photograph of staff members. In 1898 he married Catherina Coster (b 1864 08 13 d 1965 08 10) in Pretoria by whom he had one child. During the Anglo-Boer War he was a member of Platoon V of the Hollander Corps escaping capture during the Battle of Elandslaagte. He died in Pretoria.
