Click to view map Coordinates: | This bridge shows an interesting palimpsest of construction episodes. The original stone abutments seem to have been built for a single line and residual haunching suggests that it once carried a steel superstructure. The brick infill and arch possibly replaced the steel structure. At some stage the line was doubled up and the stone buttresses matched with similar mass concrete adjacent. The bridge brick arch was also duplicated. There is a brickworks proximate to the line at this place and it is more than probable that it supplied the bricks for the arched bridge. |
