Originally OBERMEIJER. Recorded in the Almanak of 1895 as working in the Department of Public Works for the South African Republic under SW WIERDA in Johannesburg as Government Supervisor, and by 1897 as Chief Government Supervisor, Johannesburg, a position he held until the outbreak of the South African War. After the war he was later listed as working in partnership with WIERDA (cf WIERDA & OBERMEYER) from an address in Loveday Street, Johannesburg in 1903.
