| | PEDDIE, J LangBorn: fl.1902 Died: 1918Architect |
Not a great deal is known currently Peddie, and nothing at all about his training. He was first mentioned in South Africa working as a draughtsman for the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT, Pretoria from November 1902, and D PARR says he was articled to Peddie in 1904 in Pretoria. About 1905 or 1906 Peddie entered into partnership with WC OMAN (cf OMAN & PEDDIE). It does not appear that he became a member of the RIBA nor of any local professional society. By 1913 his ranking was third grade draughtsman, PWD. He remained with the PWD until at least 1914 but is not listed in the Public Service List in 1918 nor thereafter. (ARIBA nom papers (D Parr); CSL,Tvl 1904:33; PSL 1914; FRIBA nom papers see OMAN) All truncated references not fully cited in 'References' are those of Joanna Walker's original text and cited in full in the 'Bibliography' entry of the Lexicon. |
