Worked in South Africa from 1901; he was born in The Netherlands and trained probably as an architect at the Arnhem Technical School, The Netherlands from 1894 where he received a diploma in 1897; he was then articled to Mr Scheffeld, an architect in Groningen, Netherlands from 1897 to 1900; in 1901 he came to South Africa, becoming an Inspector of Works for the Orange Free State Government. He was listed as an architect practising in Bloemfontein in 1901 and continued to practise in the Orange Free State until 1909, working in in Kroonstad, Brandfort and Bloemfontein. Taking out British citizenship he left The Orange Free State and in March 1909 joined the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT, Transvaal, employed as principal draughtsman in Krugersdorp, designing prisons, among other buildings. In 1912 he was elected a Licentiate member of the RIBA, proposed by WJ BEALL, GSH BRADFORD and EA AGUTTER, and sent the RIBA the licences which he had been obliged to obtain annually, as were all architects, in order to be allowed to practise as an architect in the country. By 1915 he was working for the PWD in Pretoria; by 1928 his address was in Cape Town but by 1929 he had returned to the Transvaal where he died.
