Nothing has yet been established about his training; it is likely that he received his training in his father's office. He practised in Port Elizabeth from around 1900 until his retirement in 1936 (cf SMITH, SONS & DEWAR). At some point (n.d.) he is said to have worked in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe).
