He was in partnership with F UPTON from about 1892 to 1895 (cf. UPTON & TOMLINSON) and with CH STOTT (STOTT & TOMLINSON) from 1895 until 1900. Upton and Tomlinson tried to encourage Pietermaritzburg inhabitants to employ architects from Pietermaritzburg rather than from Durban.
