| | TOMLINSON, WBorn: fl.1892 Died: 1900Architect |
Was an architect and surveyor who practised in Pietermaritzburg from 1892 to 1900 and nothing is currently known about his training nor of where he was born. He was in partnership with F UPTON from about 1892 to 1895 (cf. UPTON & TOMLINSON) and with CH STOTT (STOTT & TOMLINSON) from 1895 until 1900. Upton and Tomlinson tried to encourage Pietermaritzburg inhabitants to employ architects from Pietermaritzburg rather than from Durban. (Hillebrand 1975; Twentieth C Impr of Ntl 1906) All truncated references not fully cited in 'References' are those of Joanna Walker's original text and cited in full in the 'Bibliography' entry of the Lexicon. |
