| | WEGERIF, Johannes ChristiaanBorn: fl. 1890 Died: 1919Architect |
Emigrated from the Netherlands in 1890 as a superintendent (opsigter) (Ploeger etc, 1989: 230). In 1894 Wegerif applied for the conditions of the proposed competition for the new Government Offices (the Colonial Offices Building) for Pietermaritzburg. It is assumed that he was an architect because he is also recorded as having been responsible for the Dutch Reformed Church at Springbok in 1919. (Kesting 1978; NAD PWD 1897 94) All truncated references not fully cited in 'References' are those of Joanna Walker's original text and cited in full in the 'Bibliography' entry of the Lexicon.
