He was a partner in the firm of MUNNIK VISSER BLACK and FISH.

He was a recipient of the Simon van der Stel Foundation - Heritage South Africa Gold Medal in 1983, and of the Medal of Honour for Architecture by the SA Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns in 1986.

Was listed in the staff registers of the University of Cape Town as an assistant lecturer in 1962 and 1963.

Journal Number 9 of the Vernacular Architecture Society of SA, published in June 2003, was a memorial issue dedicated to the late Dirk Visser, who had passed away earlier that year. See Journal.
