He started practice in Pretoria in 1965 after spending three years running an office in Aden, South Arabia. He relocated to Durban in 1966. He retired in 1990 as one of the senior partners of the then largest firm of architects in South Africa with 14 offices and 5 associated offices overseas. Still occasionally consulting and also until recently active as a registered arbitrator, valuer, and project manager. He is a Director of Companies including Comhousing, and until 1998 a First National Bank Regional Board Member. Member of Unisa Foundation and Chairman of two Trusts. Involvement in public bodies: Ex Chairman of Durban Sakekamer, previously board member of Chamber of Commerce and of Industries. Honorary Life Member of the Afrikaanse Handelsinstituut. Education involvement: Ex Chancellor of Technikon Natal, Natal Education Board Member, ex Chairman of two Technical Colleges. Served on several other Education Boards Regional and National, co-founder of the Business Studies Unit – Technikon Natal. Ex Chairman of Ethembeni School for 300 disabled Black children. Ex Chairman of Ethembeni Education and Training Centre specializing in training trades and crafts to able, disabled and disadvantaged Black people. Past Chairman of the Regional Development Advisory Council for Region E, KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape, and a past member of the National Regional Development Advisory Council. Justice of the Peace and Commissioner of Oaths. Ex Patron of the Veteran Car Club of South Africa (25 years). He retired from private practice in August 1990. His hobbies are woodwork, metalwork, painting and music. He completed building a 1930 Model A Ford Woodie Station Wagon in 2004, top Concourse winner. Recently restored a 1977 Citroen 2CV. Previously built a 47 foot (14.7 meter) Ocean-going Motor Sailer virtually single-handedly. Now restoring a 1917 Hudson Super Six Seven Seater Tourer.
