Arrived from Veendam, Groningen in the Netherlands. Involved with the NZASM construction activities in the Lowveld from 1890. Became a ZAR burger appointed Supervisor in March 1897 under WIERDA in ZAR PWD. Served as a policeman in Pretoria during the Anglo-Boer War. Thereafter became a building contractor in Pretoria. He married Janna Suzanna Visser (1869–1984) by whom he had three children, Jacob (1898–?), Elizabeth Margaretha (1899–?) and Margaretha (1901–?). He died and is buried in Pretoria (Family Search).
