The Longland's Directory of 1899 records him as 3rd Clerk in the PWD Administrative Section and postal address as 239 Bloed Street Pretoria. He applied for overseas leave and passport during the South African War in February 1900 (Schoeman, 2011: 184). If he is the same person as entered under this name on Family Search then he was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He married Maria Christina Sophia van Eekhout (1859–1936) in Amsterdam 0n 1886 03 18 by whom he had at least a son Barend (1887-?). He died in Apeldoorn, Gelderland, the Netherlands.
