BArch 1991 (Pretoria); MArch 1999 (Pretoria); PhD (Salford); PhD (Honoris Causa) (Chalmers) Prof Du Plessis received her BArch and MArch (by research) at the University of Pretoria. She was awarded a PhD by the University of Salford (United Kingdom) with her thesis "An approach to studying urban sustainability from within an ecological worldview". In 2010 she received an honorary doctorate in technology from Chalmers University of Technology, Göteborg (Sweden). Her field of expertise is sustainability in the built environment and she has applied this in a body of work that spanned the fields of housing, construction industry performance, urban/human settlement development and infrastructure design. In October 2015 Du Plessis became Head of the University of Pretoria School of Architecture. Prior to that she was Associate Professor in the Department of Construction Economics, University of Pretoria, South Africa where she explores what concepts such as resilience and regenerative design would mean for how we think about urban sustainability and how we live our lives.
