Born in Ladysmith, Natal, son of Arthur Hendrick Adkin (1888-??) and Ada Emma nee Adlin (1893-??) (FS).

Recorded in 1959 as member of the NIA in private practice of address 152 Mansion House, Field Street, Durban, Natal. In 1969 he is recorded as principal of BASIL ADKIN and HARDIE of address 606-609 Provident Assurance House, Field Street, Durban Natal.

He married Marion Horsley (1930-??) in Durban Natal on 1951 03 31. Thereafter he married Glynne Driven (1941-2011) whom he divorced on 1981 07 08 (FS).
