Chipkin (2008:115) records that he joined the firm (cited below) a principal, responsible for modern architecture with an Arts and Crafts flair. He was, at the time, under constant surveillance by the Special Branch of the then apartheid police due to his hosting Black Sash meetings at his home.

In 1959 was listed as working for NURCOMBE,  SUMMERLEY, RINGROSE and TODD of address 301 Portland Place, 37 Garrison Street, , Braamfontein, Johannesburg, NURCOMBE, SUMMERLEY and ASSOCIATES, 404, Central Africa House, First Street, Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) and NURCOME, SUMMERLEY, RINGROSE and BROWN of Mbabane, Swaziland (now eSwatini).
