Came from Arnhem, Gelderland, Netherlands to work as a draughtsman in the ZAR DPW before 1899. Longland s Directory of 1899 records him as NYENES and as a Government Surveyor. Was elected Lieutenant of the Hollander Corps in the Anglo-Boer War of Platoon IV with 39 votes (Ploeger, 1957: 299), captured at Elandslaagde and sent as Prisoner of War to St Helena. Ploeger (1994: 95) records that he was exchanged for a British Officer. He was in the service of the Surveyor General's office in Pretoria until his retirement in 1925. He is recorded as having attended a dinner to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Battle of Elandslaagte in Pretoria in 1929 (Schoeman, 2011: 157). He died in Pretoria.
