VAN EELDE, AGA

Born: fl. 1892

Structural Engineer


An engineer with the NZASM. He accompanied JL CLUYSENAER to Pretoria in April of 1887. With the NZASM taking over contractual responsibilities for finishing the Southern Line he became the responsible engineer and In 1892 he designed the temporary wooden trestle bridge across the Vaal River while the CAPE GOVERNMENT RAILWAYS had difficulties in getting an inept contractor to complete the permanent structure. Eelde was the engineer in charge of organising the war rail traffic of the NZASM in parts of the Cape Colony when occupied by the Boers during the Anglo-Boer War.
