Worked at the Ceramic Studio/Linnware: 31 October 1928 - 1935; Part-time: 1935-1952

Educated at St Anne's DSG, Hilton. Trained at Durban School of Art and Royal College of Art, London. After completion of her studies [1925] she married Dr Gifford-Gayton who died shortly afterwards as a result of war injuries. She travelled in Europe before returning to South Africa to take up a position at the Ceramic Studio in 1928. Employed as designer/decorator. Married Francois van Schalkwijk in 1932. Later taught art at St Mary's DSG, Pretoria. Died in Pretoria and was buried in the main cemetery at Irene, where her late husband Francois van Schalkwijk (1900 – 1956) and their young daughter Jennifer Jane van Schalkwijk (1935 – 1949) had been laid to rest.
