Gillian Adendorff is the Principal Architect in the practice ADENDORFF ARCHITECTS & INTERIORS in Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. She has recently been awarded her PhD in Construction Management from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University for her Doctorate in "The Possible Futures for the African Built Environment Towards 2050."
She qualified in 1989 with her Bachelor of Architecture at the University Of Port Elizabeth (now NMMU) under the auspices of Professor Danie THERON. She has been a practicing architect for the last 25 years.
Between 1989 and 1992 she lectured at the university in the subjects of Theory and History of Architecture at the Bird Street campus and then Architectural Design at the main campus.
She has had a number of journal articles and refereed papers published. She has been invited as keynote speaker and guest speaker at various national and international conferences.
Gillian has been actively involved with the Eastern Cape Institute of Architects committee for many years and was elected the first female President in 2004 - 2006. During this time she also served on the Management Committee for the South African Institute of Architects. She represented the Institute of Interior Designers at the South African Council for the Architectural Profession and was active on the Identification of Work Committee and Continued Professional Development Committee for the South African Council for the Architectural Profession. She has served as the Eastern Cape President of the National Association Business Women's Organisation (NABOW) and the Business Women's Association (BWA). She is active on the NMMU Business School Board and is past Chairman of this board. She has been a Director of the ECHO Foundation for aged care in the Eastern Cape.
