He arrived in the Cape with the First British occupation in 1795 and departed in 1802 when the Cape was returned to the Batavian Republic (Netherlands). As Captain in the ROYAL ENGINEERS recorded by LEWCOCK (1963: 443) as having executed drawings of Craig's Tower and Battery.
