He received his secondary education in Kroonstad where he matriculated at the Afrikaans Hoërskool Kroonstad in 1987. He obtained the degree B.Arch. Studiorum in 1993, the B. Arch. Degree in 1995, the master’s degree DPEA- Architecture en Terre from the Ecole d'Architecture de Grenoble, France in 2000. He started his career as a candidate architect in Kroonstad in 1995. In 1997 he was appointed in the Department of Architecture of the University of the Free State and at present he is a lecturer at the University of the Free State. He is married to Debbie and the couple has a son and a daughter. His PhD thesis was on earth construction under the supervision of Prof emeritus Das STEYN.
