Yasmin MAYAT is a founding partner of MAYAT HART ARCHITECTS AND HERITAGE CONSULTANTS with Brendan HART. Yasmin studied a Bachelor of Science at the University of Cape Town (majoring in Botany and Zoology) before completing her professional architectural degrees at the University of the Witwatersrand. In 2006, after graduating from Wits, Yasmin worked at ALBONICO SACK METACITY ARCHITECTS and URBAN DESIGNERS where she worked on a number of high profile public projects before establishing Mayat Hart Architects and Heritage Consultants in 2012. Yasmin holds a Masters of Philosophy in the in Conservation of the Built Environment from the University of Cape Town (with her dissertation topic “Fordsburg’s Urban Memory: Cultural Significance and Its Embodiment in the Ordinary Landscape”) and is an accredited professional member of Association of Professional Heritage Practitioners (APHP). In addition to public lectures Yasmin is a sessional lecturer in the honours programme at the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of the Witwatersrand, a member of DOCOMOMO South Africa and sits on the heritage committee of the Gauteng Institute for Architecture (GIfA).
