Goad trained as a civil engineer and architect and was in partnership with FL CANNING from about 1884 until 1893 (cf CANNING & GOAD). In around 1884 he was working with Canning in Queenstown, thereafter in Bloemfontein (c1884-1886) and finally in Johannesburg until his sudden death at age 31. He had married Clara Pellon in Queenstown on 7 Sept 1883. His death certificate states that he was a widower and had an 8-year-old son, Charles Frederick Coombs Goad.
