Ablett was born at Rendham, Suffolk, England. He married Eliza Henrietta Colling (b.1832 - d.1907) in Port Elizabeth on 3 Dec 1856; his occupation was given as Carpenter. He died aged 72 at his home at 30 Cuyler Cres, Port Elizabeth. His death certificate gave his occupation as Builder & Contractor.
