One of the masters of Modernism, Breuer displayed interest in modular construction and simple forms. His architectural thinking influenced for example Helmut STAUCH who in 1929 had accepted an offer to return to Berlin where he worked with Fred FORBAT until 1933, and partly with W GROPIUS, mainly on housing schemes. John FASSLER was later influenced by BREUER, demonstrated in his design for Unicorn House in Johannesburg, particularly in his shaping of the double volume columns on the ground floor.
