Succeeded SS LUNN as City Engineer of the CAPE TOWN CITY ENGINEERS DEPARTMENT in 1950. In 1958 the University of Cape Town conferred a PhD in Engineering for a thesis titled The augmentation of water supplies with special reference to the City of Cape Town's Wemmershoek Scheme. In his time as City Engineer the engineering infrastructure of greater Cape Town was vastly extended including roads, water supply, public amenities and spaces.
