Born and educated in East London, South Africa. Son of Brian W WATSON (past City Architect of the East London Municipality). Studied Architecture at University of Port Elizabeth (now the Nelson Mandela University). Involved in opposition to apartheid politics as a student, and later in social issues and race relations. Designed and built his house above the Quenera River in Beacon Bay. Married to Ines Watson, a reporter on the Daily Dispatch, an East London newspaper. Involved in local history, architectural conservation and environmental issues.
Practised in East London with his father Brian Watson. Authored a book titled The Urban Trail – A Walk Through The Urban Heritage of East London's Central Business District and Older Suburbs, published in 1989. Member of the Border Kei Institute of Architects. Chairman of the Border Kei Institute of Architects from 1990 – 1991.
Emigrated to Scotland with his family in 1999. Involved there in local history, architectural conservation and local affairs. Now "retired" for several years, but with a part-time job.
