FAIRBRIDGE, Dorothea Anne

Author


Born in Sea Point, South Africa but educated in England, to where she frequently returned. During the Anglo-Boer War she founded the Loyal Women's Guild to alleviate the miseries of the war. She was a founding member of the Historical Monuments Society. She studied material in the Cape archives for her writings and produced works of non-fiction related to the old farms and houses of the Cape. She travelled widely in the Cape, also having an interest in its flora and avifauna, recording these trips in two travelogues. She died in her house 'Paradise' in Claremont, Cape Town.
