STERN was amongst the Jewish immigrants into South Africa during the Hitler era. '... quite late in 1936, he had been given a tip off: ''You'd better leave immediately.'' He was gone in virtually twenty-four hours , his safe passage rubber-stamped by an old school fiend now in the Gestapo'. He was in JANKS office after the War, 'sharing the same back office as Touang Kong CHIEN from Shanghai' (Chipkin 1993:305).
