Was apprenticed to Alexander Gordon, probably in Britain, before coming to Natal where he was appointed clerk of works in the colonial engineer's office under AH HIME. He was responsible for the design of several buildings for the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT around 1884. His name is also attached to the building of Addington Hospital in Durban circa 1877 (see also DUDGEON).
