Also referred to as TWENTYMAN JONES, Horace Eustace.

Was born in Rosebank, Cape Town. He studied architecture at the University of Cape Town at the Faculty of Arts, the Michaelis School, graduating in 1936 with a diploma in architecture. While a student he gained experience in the offices of WH GREGORY, ARIBA in Cape Town (1 December 1933 to 29 February 1934 and June to July 1934) and of PERRY & LIGHTFOOT (February 1935 to July 1935 and November to December 1935). In 1934 he had won the John Perry prize as a third-year student. On graduating he joined the office of Perry & Lightfoot, becoming a permanent member of staff in 1937, the year in which he was elected an Associate member of the RIBA, his papers being signed by Sidney W WHITMORE, LRIBA. He left Perry & Lightfoot in 1937 and set up practice in Cape Town in partnership with M DEMBITZER (cf TWENTYMAN JONES & DEMBITZER); the partnership lasted from 1937 to 1941. From 1941 to 1945 he was in army service with the Directorate of Works in Pretoria. In 1945 he rejoined Perry & Lightfoot and in about 1948 the firm became LIGHTFOOT & PARTNERS, Twentyman Jones having become a partner. In the early 1950s the firm changed its name to LIGHTFOOT, TWENTYMAN-JONES, KENT. Twentyman Jones retired in 1970. The name was hyphenated by the 1950s and appeared thus on letterheads.
