The Three Thousand Square meter site was originally part of an old farm and contained a row of 5 very large plane trees and existing swimming pool.

The plan of the house follows the preferred and traditional north orientation of the vernacular Transvaal house.

A row of 5 rooms matches the 5 trees and four tall sliding windows respond to their position and rhythm. The materials used are face brick, a unified tile throughout and white painted, flush plastered ceilings.

The facades make reference to the perforated facades of the Transvaal commercial buildings of the late nineteenth century and express the structure and forms of the inside spaces.

This is a small building, with almost a classical repose.

The house was extended in 1991 as House Mckay.
