Whitewashed walls and flat facades achieve affinity with the Cape Dutch and Georgian context without sacrificing its contemporary integrity (Greig, 1971: 221). Sybrand Mankadan was the first teacher, preacher and sick-visitor in Stellenbosch, sent there from the Netherlands in the 1680s. He was also the first secretary of the Landdros and Heemrade Council.
