| Built along the extension of the then Market Road. Coursed rough-hewn ashlar abutments supported a triangulated steel girder super-structure spanning 12m. Fowler of Britain was awarded the tender but this was cancelled. This was the first bridge where the technical devision of the DPW erected the steel super-structure themselves. A replacement for the bridge was planned in 1898 and it was to be re-erected over the Riet Spruit but the project was aborted due to the threatening war with Britain.
