In die agttiende eeu het hier 'n bruin man met die naam Armoed gewoon. Teen 1770 het die eerste blankes hulle hier gevestig. Sedert 1908 het die eienaar van die plaas, mnr. W.G. Olivier, reeds 'n aanbod aan die kerkraad van Oudtshoorn gemaak van vyf morge grond en 'n kerkgebou van 700 sitplekke volgens 'n plan deur die kerkraad goedgekeur. Hierdie kerkgebou sou hy op eie koste laat oprig met die oog op die stigting van 'n dorp op sy grond. Aanvanklik is die aanbod deur die kerkraad van die hand gewys. In 1910 is dit egter aanvaar, waarna di. George Murray en Andrew Murray McGregor die kerkgebou se hoeksteen op hierdie dag in 1910 plegtig gelê het. In 1912 is transport van die kerkgebou en grond aan die kerkraad van Oudtshoorn oorhandig. Die volgende jaar is ook die pastorie gebou en aansoek om afstigting gedoen. Hierdie versoek sou eers in 1921 toegestaan word. Oudtshoorn het egter reeds in 1912 'n derde leraar beroep in die persoon van ds. S.P. Helm, met standplaas op Armoed. Nog voor die selfstandigwording het ook di. J.G. Muller en J.W. Snyman hier gearbei. (Morné van Rooyen, May 2026) Translation 15 May 1910 | The NG Congregation Volmoed, located 16 km southwest of Oudtshoorn, was founded on 29 November 1921 on the farm Armoed. In the eighteenth century, a brown man named Armoed (meaning poverty) lived here. By 1770, the first whites established themselves at this place. In 1908 the owner of the farm, Mr WG Olivier, made an offer of five Morgan [~4,3 Ha] of land as well a church building of 700 seats for which he would pay, to be built according to a plan approved by the church council of Oudtshoorn. He would have this church building erected at his own expense with a view to establishing a town on his land. The initial offer presented to the church council was dismissed. However, in 1910 it was accepted, after which the Dominees George Murray and Andrew Murray McGregor laid the church foundation stone in 1910. In 1912, transport of the church building and land was handed over to the church council of Oudtshoorn. The next year, the pastorie was also built and application for the establishment of its congregation was made. This request would only be granted in 1921. However, by 1912 Oudtshoorn already had its third preacher in the person of Dominee SP Helm, with a plot of land at Armoed.
