Formed part of the Cape Town Van Riebeeck Festival which was held in sheds constructed for the event on the foreshore. These were later repurposed as the Culemborg Railway Goods Station. It was the largest exhibition ever held in South Africa up until that time. The pavilion for the gold-industry was the biggest exhibit on the show, containing a large-scale working model of a gold mine.
