On completion of the house, Wynand Louw did not take occupation of his home and it was temporarily used as a hospital. It was in the middle of a pandemic and at that time Paarl had no hospital. (Johann Claassen, 2021)

'Die Hoogte' designed by pioneer architect W H Louw as his private residence in 1914, is located on a piece of the family farm, Laborie. A fine example of the Arts and Crafts Movement, the design of W H Louw's residence reflects the high standards of its time. It is characterised by the use of local granite in unfinished as well as semi-rough and smoothly finished form, combined with textured plaster finishes, natural clay tiles, custom-made joinery and leadlight glazing.
