House in Bedford Park
Johannesburg, Gauteng

Date:n.d.
Type:Homestead
Status:Demolished

The house displayed on your website was always known to us as children as GALLAGHERS HOUSE as it belonged to the family that owned Gallaghers Bakery in Orange Grove.

It was a family home and then became a share house before being empty for a while and then was knocked down to make way for a heap of townhouses.

It had a swimming pool in the front garden. It must have been on about 205 acres.

(Rod Laxen, September 2016)

The house was called Rachan in the 1970s and was one of the communal houses mentioned in the blog-site The Tyrone Communal House scene. Johannesburg 1975-1978.
