The foundation stone was laid on 26 March 1921. The contractor was Mr L Canrinus.

There is a stone in the churchyard with an inscription of Artikel 20 van die Grondwet van die Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek (Article 20 of the Constitution of the Zuid-Afrikaansche Republic).
