First built c1903 it was originally a short stone tower about twelve metres high. It was later extended to twenty-eight metres, but when this happened is not known. The lantern in use in 1923, when the lighthouse was re-established after the First World War, is still in use. Major renovations to the glazing section were undertaken in 1982.
