The mosque is one of the few buildings that avoided demolition when South End was razed to the ground in the early 1970's. It is still referred to as the Pier Street Mosque even though the street no longer exists. The building stands sadly isolated next to the Settlers Highway freeway (near the corner of Baakens Street and Lower Valley Road).

The mosque has been extended to both the left and the right since its construction and the dome has been replaced (to a different design).

(Gerald Humphrey, November 2016)

The mosque was built in 1901 from the proceeds of the sale of the Mosque in Strand Street in 1900.
