This Cornish pump formed part of the Cornish pump engine complex, consisting of an engine, Cornish pump, mine shaft and furnace. This unique pump engine, typical of that invented by Thomas Newcomen of Cornwal in 1712, was used to pump water from the O'Kiep mine during the period 1882 to 1929. The pump engine was restored in 1965-1968. 10/2/579.

Declared a National Monument in 1978.
