This monument, situated on the pavement in Voortrekker St, was erected in 1938 with the assistance of the town's Cultural Historical Society in conjunction with the Town Council. The symbolic ox-wagon trek through South Africa to Pretoria was intended to commemorate the Great Trek, which had taken place a century earlier from the Cape Colony to the north.

The wagon tracks evident in the cement in front of the Voortrekker School mark the trek of Charl Cilliers.
