(Pryce-Lewis list item 2197) 'Talana' was one of the earliest buildings to be erected on the new Paradise Estate in Claremont (see also 'House CH Hodgson', 'Villa for F Dormehl' and 'House FE Cartwright'). It is thought to have been named after the South African War’s Battle of Talana Hill, Natal in 1899. In its final years, the house was the 'Paradise Residential Hotel'.
