The modern Port of Durban was first established when a party of British men from Cape Colony settled on the shores of the Bay of Natal in 1824 to establish a Trading Post. (South Africa History Online, accessed 2022 02 28)

Development of Durban's harbour, one of the world's major commercial ports, began in 1855. Serving the Witwatersrand industrial region, it is a major container port and point of entry for bulk raw materials, capital goods, and industrial equipment. (Britannica, accessed 2022 02 28)
