This belonged to Ohlssons Cape Breweries. One of many hotels that they owned in Cape Town – sales points for their beer.

The Newlands Station Hotel (or simply 'Station Hotel') was in existence by 1889 (it's listed in the Argus Annual for that year, p 660). The City of Cape Town's Heritage Building Plans Register (2013) lists four later plans :
1900 : alterations (architect : J Parker)
1901 : addition of earth closet(s) (architect : J. Parker)
1912 : urinals, alterations and additions (architects : Black & Fagg)
1912 : no description (architect : Austin Cooke).
