Frederick Gibson, the owner of the European Hotel (later Pilgrim's Hotel) leased the stand and built Royal Cottage as a residence in 1894. In 1897 Gibson sold the house to Wilhelm Ferdinand Phillip Alexander Stein who also bought the hotel. Stein sold hotel and Royal Cottage to Neil McIntyre in 1912. When McIntyre's business was liquidated in 1923 the lease for this stand was into the name of Harry Engelstein. Engelstein sold the house to Louis Wood in 1929. Wood sold the hotel and residence to William Morris Jeffery and Norman Beresford Winn in 1935. In July 1940 the lease was transferred into the name of Norman Winn and after their divorce in 1947, it was transferred into the name of his ex-wife, Bernice Florence Irene Winn (née Opie). In 1952 the lease was transferred to Walter John Lewis Guest and after his death in 1957 into the name of June Elizabeth Guest. The building is currently utilised as an annex to the Royal Hotel.
