A memorial made by monumental masons in Newcastle, Natal and funded by the Zulu people, initiated by King Solomon Nkayishana kaDinizulu (1891-1933), to mark the burial spot of King Shaka (1787-1828). The stone on which he was allegedly seated when assassinated by his half-brothers forms part of the memorial. The memorial was declared a National Monument in 1938, now a Provincial Heritage Resource.
