| A portion of land of an insolvent estate of C G Langeman, again subdivided by the subsequent purchaser RH Aderne, and purchased by Sophia Jamison (nee Hiddingh) who bought the smaller portion from WM Farmer, the original purchaser. Sophia Jamison, a ''gentlewoman'' of means, had the existing cottage demolished and built for herself the holiday home Carisbrooke in 1880. In 1893 she sold the property to William Pocock in 1993. In 1912 Pocock had extensive alterations and additions designed by by WJ DELBRIDGE (Pryce-Lewis list 14 471). In 1918 Pocock subdivided the property into four, retaining the cottage. Prof AE SNAPE purchased one of the vacant erven and had WJ DELBRIDGE design his cottage. In 194AR Badlow (nee Greenberg purchased the property. Walker 2011:4; 7-8; 127). |
