Click to view large map Coordinates: | President Steyn bought the farm in 1896 and named it Onze Rust. After the war, President Steyn departed with his family to Europe to receive medical treatment. While the Steyn family was in Europe, the idea arose among the Afrikaner people to enlarge the house at Onze Rust. President Steyn requested that only unemployed Free Staters work on the house. No expensive materials were used for the construction. The walls were built with raw brick and stone and remained unplastered for a long time. The woodwork was made of pine. |
